Massage Modalities At Siskiyou Massage

At Siskiyou Massage, our highly trained Massage Therapists practice a number of different massage modalities which means, whatever your massage needs, there is a technique that’s right for you. We’re highlighting 3 massage modalities today and if you are interested in learning more, please check out the details on our modalities page.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release literally means releasing the connective tissue that is within the muscles. Fascia is a strong connective tissue that surrounds every part of our body. Its function is to suspend, support, protect and keep separate all of our organs and tissues. It lies under our skin, permeates every muscle and surrounds every bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ. With incredible pressure and strength it keeps us defined in the shape that we know as our body.

Myofascial release is simply working with the fascial system to release restricted patterns. We move through our lives in a variety of patterned movements. These patterns train our bodies to function in a certain way and to hold in a certain way. If one side of the structure becomes too taught, the muscles on the opposing side need to contract to keep us from falling over. This contraction can lead to spasms and pain.

An important thing to remember is that you can not change your posture without changing your fascia. Myofascial release is simply working with the fascial system to release restricted patterns.

Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic Massage or Medical Massage is used to alleviate pain and discomfort, balance movement and postural patterns, and improve the metabolic systems in the body among many other benefits. Our goal is to alleviate our clients’ pain and then discover the true cause in order to affect a permanent change. Our clinic stays in regular contact with our client’s referring health care providers in order to keep them informed of the progress and to receive feedback or advice.

Because our therapists are trained in a multitude of massage modalities and techniques, we are able to apply a combination of approaches for each individual’s needs. This can include myofascial release, myoskeletal alignment, active release techniques, structural integration, passive positional release, strain/counterstrain techniques, trigger point therapy, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, neuromuscular therapy, joint mobilization through soft tissue manipulation, visceral massage and lymphatic drainage.

We have collectively been able to help thousands of people with back pain, headaches, acceleration-deceleration injuries (including whiplash), TMJ dysfunction, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, depression, and sciatica.

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal Massage aids in creating a more comfortable and relaxed pregnancy. In addition to hormone regulation, prenatal massage helps to reduce swelling, reduce nerve pain (such as sciatic pain), ease back pain, increase circulation, reduce headaches and helps the expectant mother sleep better.

At Siskiyou Massage, we see women before, throughout, and after pregnancy. We shift techniques and positioning depending on which trimester the woman is in, and what each woman’s body needs. Just like any massage, the comfort and health of each client is the focal point of the session, keeping baby in mind as much as mother.
