Continually proven to be a healthy choice for mother and child.
It is common knowledge that babies in the womb are affected by their mother’s choices – Expecting mothers read to their growing bellies, play music to the little one and, of course, watch what they eat. Massage plays an important role during those precious prenatal months for both baby and mother to grow together in a healthy and conscious way.
Prenatal massage is a healthy choice for the mother and baby and is continually proven to be so in scientific studies. Massage during pregnancy aids in creating a more comfortable and relaxed pregnancy. The American Pregnancy Association recognizes that massage reduces stress hormones while increasing dopamine and serotonin levels (which, among other things, help keep depression at bay). These changes in hormone levels also lead to fewer complications during birth and fewer instances of newborn complications, such as low birth weight.
In addition to hormone regulation, prenatal
massage helps to reduce swelling, reduce nerve pain (such as sciatic pain), ease back pain, increase circulation, reduce headaches and helps the expectant mother sleep better.
At Siskiyou Massage, we see women before, throughout, and after pregnancy. We shift techniques and positioning depending on which trimester the woman is in, and what each woman’s body needs. Just like any massage, the comfort and health of each client is the focal point of the session, keeping baby in mind as much as mother.
